Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island known as West Island. People who don't understand the name mistakenly believe that they are on the West Island extends westward from Montreal. Actually it is this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward of Lachine. Lachine. Many times, it is credited as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was not long. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. Her first ambition was to be an expert dancer. However, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow every dance partner she was able to have. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. After I surpassed my male counterparts and gave up, I decided to give up. Former dancers often turn into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was an urging from her high school teacher of drama. One of her teachers suggested she try out for a school production. The school's production was a success and she was selected to play the principal role in Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years that followed, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions on both small and large screens. She attracted the most media attention after she was offered the character of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel appeared only on rare occasions in the first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the only Canadian actor.
